10- and 14-yr Old Girls Create iPad Ebook – Fuzzy Wuzzy and Other Tails

American Fork, Utah – Two girls, ages 10 and 14, have published Fuzzy Wuzzy and Other Tails, a new interactive, animated ebook for the iPad and iPhone. Sarah Izatt (age 10), the author, connected with Megan Young (age 14), the illustrator, through My Tech High, an online charter school program that helps youth gain marketable technology skills. Using Gimp, a free graphic design program, combined with animation tools for ebook creation at TaleSpring, these girls created the book based on the old rhyme, "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear…". Their story includes such characters as Chubby Wubby, Lucky Ducky, Lovey Dovey, Swimmy Kimmy, and more!

Example Features:
* Tap the bear to see his fur fly off
* See the sock-wearing turtle skate across the kitchen floor
* Watch the bunny push the honey pot off the table
* Open the treasure chest to see what animal is hiding inside
* Discover other hidden animals and sound effects throughout the book

Sarah will be demonstrating the book at the My Tech High Student Showcase, on 2 February 2012, at the Novell Campus in Provo, UT.

Sarah's story began with a visit from her Grandad who shared the original fuzzy wuzzy poem with her. Not too long after, she had prepared a little book made with stapled pieces of paper that not only included the original fuzzy wuzzy bear, but new verses about other animals. At the suggestion of her father, founder of TaleSpring, she began the work of refining the verses in preparation of making it into a TaleSpring interactive ebook.

Sarah's father knew Matt Bowman, founder of My Tech High. Megan attended My Tech High for 2 years before moving from Utah to Arizona. Believing her to be a great fit for the project, Matt contacted Megan, and she and Sarah were introduced via email and later through Skype. Over the course of 4 months, Megan created the beautiful illustrations and animated characters that went into Fuzzy Wuzzy.

At the end of the ebook, both Sarah and Megan shared a short audio bio in which they tell readers about their experience in creating the book.

My Tech High partners with innovative Charter Schools to provide home-based students a personalized, tech-focused educational experience – 100% tuition-free.

Pleased to Announce Rotating Feature

Many authors have been asking for the ability to rotate page elements within the TaleSpring editor and we're very pleased to announce that this feature has been added. You can now easily change the orientation of any image, video, or text box placed in the editor. Just drag your element to the desired location. In the center you will see a green circle with a line extended to the right attached to a blue dot. Click and drag the blue dot to rotate the element to the desired orientation. It's that simple. Repeat this process as needed to rotate your image, text, or video perfectly on the page.  Below is an example of how the rotation feature looks in the editor.

Happy creating!

TaleSpring going to Scrapbook USA Expo in Sandy, UT

We are very excited to be going to the Scrapbook USA Expo next month (Sept. 9-10). This is a really big show bringing in over 10,000 people! Hope you're going to one of them – please stop by our booth and say hi! We'll be giving away chocolate! Mmmmmmm!

I'm excited to introduce everyone to TaleSpring, online multimedia scrapbooking!

TaleSpring started out as a self-publishing service for interactive, animated ebook apps for the iPad and iPhone (you can see the books people have published here – www.talespring.com/books). Then we started getting a lot of interest in using TaleSpring for digital scrapbooking. So we added in some more features, included some free artwork from Digital Scrapbook Memories, plus a library of over 300 sound effects, and we're now open for business for interactive, multimedia scrapbooking!

So what is interactive, multimedia scrapbooking?

With TaleSpring, you can add cool effects to your photos, such as moving them around, spinning, fading-in or out, growing/shrinking. You can add touch spots so tapping or clicking on a photo will make something happen. You can add audio clips that narrate the photos, explaining who everybody is and what led up to the photo. And even include video clips! We're living in a digital world. Isn't there so much more to capture about your memories beyond photos?

Here's how it works. Sign-up is free, creating scrapbooks is free, and everyone gets 25MB of free storage space. And it's only $10/mo to upgrade to 2GB. At any time you can download your scrapbook and view it on your Mac (PC reader coming soon) or even on your iPad or iPhone! You can also share it on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or any other social media site or your own website. You get a shared URL or link that you can simply copy/paste anywhere, and it will take users to a public copy of your interactive, multimedia scrapbook hosted at TaleSpring.com. Sign-up for free today – www.TaleSpring.com/scrapbooking

And come see us in the new Digi Lounge in September!

You can share a scrapbook or a sample copy of selections from your book in the App Store. Just make a copy of your book, remove all but a few pages and then share it.

We also now have graphics and sounds that you are free to use in your books. And best of all they do not use up space in your account. You can find them in the Media Library under the TaleSpring media folders.

So now you can make interactive animated scrapbooks and download them as many times as you want at no cost!

We have also added Firefox 5.0 support to our existing Chrome and Safari support. These modern browsers that fully support HTML5 and CSS3 are required by our platform to allow full previewing of the books before publishing, with all the animations, sounds, and video.

Father’s Day eBook – My Daddy – Hits #45 in iPad Books on 3rd day

Orem, Utah, Jun 14, 2011 – “My Daddy”, a new interactive animated ebook for the iPhone and iPad, is in the App Store just in time for Father’s Day, only $1.99. As a universal app, users can purchase the app once and install it on both their iPhone and iPad, optimized for each screen size.

Each page depicts a different scene of a boy spending time with his Daddy. Animation and interactivity, or touch spots, on every page. They play catch, Daddy teaches the boy how to ride a bike, they go fishing, Daddy scares away the monsters under the bed, and on and on. They are accompanied by a little white mouse that likes to be a part of the fun! But he likes to hide. Readers must tap around each page to find him. Watch the mouse ride off on a motorcycle while the boy is learning to ride his bike.

Monday, June 6th, on its third day of sales, My Daddy hit #45 in iPad Books in the U.S. App Store. My Daddy is one of the new ebooks created using TaleSpring, where non-technical authors can create their own interactive, animated ebooks for the iPhone and iPad.

A June special allows for half-off; publish for only $75.

“My Daddy” is the fifth book to be published through TaleSpring. Others include:
1) “Darla of the Deep” – a young girl’s imagination takes her on adventures during bathtime.
2) “My Adventure” – has Trevor lost his imagination? Could it be true?
3) “Lucy has a Straw” – Lucy discovers many fun things to do with her new pink restaurant straw.
4) “The World’s Shortest Cactus Springs Tale Ever” – a jumpy cactus farmer really travels when he falls on a cactus.

TaleSpring is focusing their application efforts in the areas of children’s books, scrapbooking, training and sales, advertising, and academia, where the art of storytelling can be significantly enhanced with the TaleSpring application.

Publish to iPad and iPhone with TaleSpring – 50% Off in June

Orem, UT    Jun 14, 2011 - While many development shops will build interactive, animated book applications for their clients at a cost of thousands of dollars, TaleSpring provides an online authoring tool that enables non-technical authors to create their own animated ebooks for the iPad and iPhone for free, and publish to the iPad and iPhone for only $150 ($75 in June). It’s free to sign-up, free to create books; you only pay when you publish.

Through June 30th, storytellers may publish for 50% OFF, only $75. Customers may also hire TaleSpring to build the ebook for $500-$1000, depending on book size.

TaleSpring CEO Jason Izatt is excited to provide an easy-to-use, online platform for anyone with a story to tell, and publish that story in a rich media format at an affordable price.

“The iPad, iPhone, and Android devices have opened the world of having rich, engaging content with us wherever we go,” Izatt said. “We believe in making that world accessible to everyone, giving them an opportunity to let their story out, without holding them hostage to the need for technical skills or big budgets.”

TaleSpring is focusing their application efforts in the areas of children’s books, scrapbooking, training and sales, advertising, and academia, where the art of storytelling can be significantly enhanced with the TaleSpring application.

eBooks published with the TaleSpring system can be found by searching the App Store for “TaleSpring”. Prices range from $1.99 to $5.99. The author or storyteller gets to set the price of their own book, and receive a 50% royalty on the sales of the book. Apple keeps 30%, TaleSpring gets 20%.

While animated children’s books have caught the public’s eye, interactive publications also include promotional and instructional apps. Zimbi is creating a “How to throw a Zimbi” book using the TaleSpring system. Sales and training organizations can also use it to produce highly instructive materials that are now portable on a mobile device, such as the iPad.

Community Recognition
In May 2010, TaleSpring was selected as one of 10 companies to be part of the inaugural year of BoomStartup, a four-month incubator/mentorship program designed to grow new businesses. In June 2010, TaleSpring was recognized as a finalist for the Utah Startup of the Year award by FundingUniverse.

Currently, TaleSpring is one of 10 companies chosen for the 2011 Provo Tech-X Revenue Accelerator program which draws upon various experts in the sub-fields of Sales and Marketing to provide direct training and mentoring to participant companies for a 12-week period.

Background Colors, On-Load Audio and Help System Added to TaleSpring

TaleSpring has added some more exciting features to help you make great books; background colors, on-load audio and a new help system.

Instead of starting with blank white pages, now you can add a background color to each page or you can add a gradient. Gradients are a smooth color transition between two colors which can be from top to bottom, left to right , at an angle or radial (from the center out). Gradients can give your pages a realistic sky effect.

On-load Audio is a feature that will allow sounds to play when a page first appears. This feature could be used for reading the text in the book or playing a background sound.

We have added a new help system that starts with a quick overview of the buttons on the interface, then allows you to walk through the steps of many of the essential tasks.

Along with these changes we have added WYSIWYG animation creation – you actually see what the graphic or text is going to look like while you’re creating the move, scale, or rotate animation.
